In addition, (3)H-progesterone was incubated with intact lymphoblasts and the steroid-conjugates formed were analyzed. The metabolite profile obtained was compared with that of the same incubations with whole blood cells and with erythrocytes. The amount of progesterone and 17-OHP metabolized was significantly higher in lymphoblasts than in normal lymphocytes. The inactivation of progesterone was significantly lower in lymphoblasts than in whole blood cells, while the conversion of 17-OHP was similar in both cell populations. Progesterone metabolites were analyzed by thin-layer chromatography, and no differences were found between the two groups. 17-OHP and androstenedione were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography, and significant differences in the metabolites formed were found between lymphoblasts and whole blood cells.
